"Dense blackberry and black currant aromas come with accents of green tobacco and chocolate. Familiar varietal flavors of peppery spice, green herbs, blackberry and chocolate finish with lasting oak and can't miss herbal notes. Drink through 2023. Michael Schachner"

"The Alpha Carménère is from a combination of vineyards in Colchagua--largely from Apalta, although also from the more coastal Marchigüe zone. The wine was 100% barrel aged, which is also evident here, although the oak doesn't mask its very ripe red fruits and herbal notes. A portrait of lush and warm version of this variety."

88 of 100 Points.
"Wine Enthusiast" has rated the wine "Montes Alpha Carmenere" from the vintage 2017 on 01.09.2019 with 88 of 100 points.
"Blueberry, blackberry, coffee and green herb aromas are stacked, as is an aggressive and sappy palate. This is a heavily oaked Carmenère that some might call masked. Caramelized berry flavors are matched by salty cured meat notes, while this ends with density and overt oak cut by latent tartaric acidity. Michael Schachner"
yr. 2014 Wine Enthusiast:
89 of 100 Points.
"Wine Enthusiast" has rated the wine "Montes Alpha Carmenere" from the vintage 2014 on 01.07.2019 with 89 of 100 points.
"On first take, this hefty Carmenère smells almost entirely of massive oak and related vanilla and maple, although airing calms things down. A dense, heavily oaked palate is extracted and full in body. Charred oak and coffee flavors cover blackberry and cassis notes, while this is flush on a huge finish."
yr. 2017 Patricio Tapia - Descorchados:

"Patricio Tapia - Descorchados" has rated the wine "Montes Alpha Carmenere" from the vintage 2017 on 01.01.2019 with 89 of 100 points.
"On the riper, lusher side of the variety, this wine was harvested late to prevent the carménère's characteristic vegetal tones. And the result is a tremendously ripe, expansive, and broad wine with very ripe black fruit notes."

"Wine Enthusiast" has rated the wine "Montes Alpha Carmenere" from the vintage 2016 on 01.12.2018 with 88 of 100 points.
"A deep color and chocolaty aromas of blackberry and other black fruits are true to Carmenère. A compact palate with dark, spicy flavors of toasted oak and herbal berry fruit precedes a steady, spicy finish. Michael Schachner"

"Little by little, the carménère from Marchigüe has been gaining ground in Montes Alpha. While the previous version had just 20%, this vintage has 40% from that western zone, 25 kilometers from the ocean. The rest is from Apalta, which offers oiliness that contrasts with Marchigüe's nerve and tension. And the blend works. This is the only Montes Alpha in this group that doesn't have an oaky nose. Here there's fruit right from the beginning... and it's our favorite."

88 of 100 Points.
"Wine Enthusiast" has rated the wine "Montes Alpha Carmenere" from the vintage 2015 on 01.01.2017 with 88 of 100 points.
"This opaque Carmenère opens with oaky, charred aromas of black fruits, coconut and burnt toast. The palate is full, meandering and ultimately heavy and extracted. Dark, toasty flavors of black fruits, resiny oak and vanilla finish with grabby tannins, spiky acidity and long-lasting blackened notes."
yr. 2012 Wine Enthusiast:
91 of 100 Points.
"Wine Enthusiast" has rated the wine "Montes Alpha Carmenere" from the vintage 2012 on 01.01.2015 with 91 of 100 points.
"Classic Carmenère aromas of spiced blackberry, olive, herbs and cola hint at green, but in the mouth this warm-vintage wine is ripe, lush and layered, with resiny oak. Flavors of cola, vanilla, blackberry and black cherry are nicely herbal, while a spicy finish brings char and coffee notes along with plush weight. Drink through 2018."

88 of 100 Points.
"Wine Enthusiast" has rated the wine "Montes Alpha Carmenere" from the vintage 2011 on 01.01.2014 with 88 of 100 points.
"Earthy, baked aromas of ripe berry, raisin and leather come with a tobacco note. This is nice given the cold weather that drove the 2011 vintage. Round tannins and overall balance provide bedding for spicy flavors of blackberry, herbal notes, licorice and oak."

91 of 100 Points.
"Wine Enthusiast" has rated the wine "Montes Alpha Carmenere" from the vintage 2010 on 01.01.2013 with 91 of 100 points.
"Everything about this mid-tier Carmenère seems right. The nose deals black-fruit aromas along with black olive, licorice and herbal notes. The mouth is round, friendly and textured, with a mix of roasted plum, berry, herb, spice, olive and tomato flavors. On the finish, it's balanced and tuned up. Drink now-2016."

89 of 100 Points.
"Wine Enthusiast" has rated the wine "Montes Alpha Carmenere" from the vintage 2009 on 01.01.2011 with 89 of 100 points.
"Hickory smoked, campfire aromas lead off the nose, which has dense berry and curt minerality at the core. The palate is chewy, meaty and rich, with toasty, woody, spicy flavors of dark fruits and chocolate. Almost blackened at points, but undeniably from good grapes."

88 of 100 Points.
"Wine Enthusiast" has rated the wine "Montes Alpha Carmenere" from the vintage 2008 on 01.01.2010 with 88 of 100 points.
"Starts with typical aromas of olive, herbs, spice and pepper, and there's berry fruit underneath. The palate is racier and more staunch than the 2007, with cherry, olive, plum and a hint of raisin. Tightly formed, with a lively DNA and a tangy finish touched up by cocoa."

"(2010) Colchagua. A bit of herbal, slightly green character and menthol, but nicely pitched within the framework of tight black fruit and peppery spice. The palate has a red fruited edge to it to, with a silkiness to the body and a dry, almost bittersweet chicory note in the finish. Spicy and long."

91 of 100 Points.
"Wine Enthusiast" has rated the wine "Montes Alpha Carmenere" from the vintage 2007 on 01.01.2009 with 91 of 100 points.
"Fans of this Chilean specialty should be thrilled because this wine is well made and complete. Mint, plum, blackberry, cola and fine leather grace the nose, while the palate sings with forward but balanced black fruit and tobacco flavors. Elevated Carmenère; great for the faithful as well as newcomers."

"Bright dark purple colour. Pure and intense nose of fine oak and roasted notes with coffee bean, cassis, plum and some floral notes. The palate has very good grip and layers, juicy dark fruit with a bright freshness, rather high but polished tannins, a sweet spiciness of ginger, clove and pepper, and a nuanced and long finish. Already good but potent for further cellaring."

89 of 100 Points.
"Andreas Larsson - Tasted" has rated the wine "Montes Alpha Carmenere" from the vintage 2012 with 89 of 100 points.
"Very dark colour here, bright, dark purple. The nose is pretty intense. Youthful, with an emphasis of dark fruit. Mainly cassis and dark plum. Then there is some vegetable notes, some herbs. Slightly herbal spiciness, like sage, anise seed, some red pepper as well. A slight hint of oak in the background. Quite a full palate. Good density here. Rather loose structure I would say. Fruit is dense, dark plum, cassis fruit. Spiced up with a little bit of that tea leaf, aromatic herbs. Slight pepperiness. A gentle hint of oak noticeable on the palate as well. Well integrated, balanced acidity. Still youthful, but with a quite pleasurable juicy, dark fruit. Rather long finish. A wine that should certainly develop well over the coming years."
