The pomegranate plant (punica granatum) is a bushy shrub up to 4-5 meters high with numerous branches, long and thin, or short and ending in a thorn. The fruit, the pomegranate, is a berry with compartments in two floors (balustrade) topped by the calyx, the outer tegument of the seeds is juicy, red, transparent, sweet-acidulous.
