This is one of the icon wines of the appellation. The Il Marroneto 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Madonna delle Grazie shows an elegantly streamlined appearance with shiny ruby highlights. This warm-vintage expression does not have the same vertical lift that we saw in the glorious 2016 edition, but that wine sets the bar very high (and it earned a 100-point score). This vintage is perhaps shapelier and more saturated with rose, wild cherry, peat moss and blood orange. The house style embraces extreme finesse, and you get that here. Alessandro Mori has also expertly managed the tannins, with results that appear silky and almost glossy. Thanks to elevation and soils, this cool growing site north of Montalcino village performs very nicely in the hot vintages such as this.

yr. 2017 Wine Enthusiast:

98 of 100 Points.

"Wine Enthusiast" has rated the wine "Il Marroneto Madonna delle Grazie" from the vintage 2017 on 01.04.2022 with 98 of 100 points.

"Pressed rose, forest berries, crushed mint and dark spice are front and center on this fragrant, stunning red, which also has whiffs of new leather. Showing the estate's hallmark of finesse and structure, the delicious palate delivers crushed raspberry, ripe Morello cherry, baking spice and licorice framed in tightly wound, refined tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced. This is one of the few 2017s that show some serious aging potential. Drink 2025-2037. Kerin O'Keefe"

"Leuchtendes Rubin-Granat. Duftige und einladende Nase, satt nach Himbeeren, Brombeeren und frischen Zwetschgen, sehr klar. Zeigt auch am Gaumen satte Frucht, viel Himbeere und dunkle Kirsche, öffnet sich dann mit dichtem, griffigem Tannin, im Nachhall würzig und salzig."

"Sweet and persuasive in the glass this young Brunello smacks of precision of execution with notes of rose petals, grapefruit juice, linden blossom, mandarin rind and green mandarin. Full bodied, perfectly mature, integrated tannins and a warm, enveloping finale, precise and very elegant. One of the best Brunello in the tasting. Impossible to resist from the start but better from 2022."

100 of 100 Points.

"This dazzling wine is for Sangiovese purists and fans of extreme finesse. Opening with tantalizing aromas of rose, violet, berry, tilled earth and new leather, it's youthfully intense but already a classic. Focused, structured and radiant, the chiseled palate delivers cherry, raspberry, licorice and crushed mint before a tobacco close. Taut, refined tannins and bright acidity keep it perfectly balanced. Drink 2026-2046. Kerin O'Keefe"

98 of 100 Points.

"Raffaele Vecchione - WinesCritic.com" has rated the wine "Il Marroneto Madonna delle Grazie" from the vintage 2016 on 01.11.2020 with 98 of 100 points.

"Decadent and bohemian lending nobility to a definitive tertiary profile. Red prunes unite with notes of black cherries, dried cherries, powdered cinnamon and star of anise. The background of equal intensity gives a synchronous sweetness blending icing sugar, chinotto and wild thyme. It is complex in its Mediterranean profile giving marjoram and burnt sage, the perfect frame for a picture made with care and dedication. Full bodied, perfectly polymerized fine grained tannins in the matrix and a tight and vibrant finish on the centre palate it then inflames in the search for a tight persistent closing. Better from 2022."

Solo 1500 Magnum prodotte."

It's a classically styled, focused Brunello that boasts elegance and structure, delivering dried black-cherry, raspberry compote, tobacco and black-tea flavors. It's still youthfully austere, with taut, noble tannins and vibrant acidity that bestow tension and an ageworthy structure. Drink 2025-2038. Kerin O'Keefe"

"A lovely, intense ruby color and a young aroma consistent with the year with its scents of cinchona, a touch of graphite and balsamic hints followed by sensations of dark cherry and a citrus nuance. The mouthfeel is still nervous but intense and rich with a classic and youthful tannic note and nice drinkability. A wine at the start of a long life."

"This is perfumed with classic scents of wild cherry, leather, crushed violet, baking spice and a balsamic note. The bold palate delivers juicy black cherry, black raspberry, anise, white pepper and cinnamon alongside firm tannins. Despite the hefty body, it also shows an almost weightless elegance while the fruit richness seamlessly supports the warmth of alcohol on the close."

"Beautiful aromas of violet, rose, pressed powder, perfumed berry and refreshing mint mingle in the glass. The focused palate boasts power and finesse, and delivers a great depth of flavors including ripe black cherry, licorice, tobacco and mineral. It's still young, with youthfully austere tannins and bright acidity, but this has the fruit richness and structure for lengthy aging. Hold for complexity; drink 2020-2040."

It opens with an elegant bouquet of violet, red berry, spice and a whiff of new leather. The delicious palate delivers fleshy black cherry layered with mint, licorice, balsamic herbs and cinnamon-spice. It's impeccably balanced with firm tannins and fresh acidity that give it an age-worthy structure. Drink 2016-2024."

yr. 2008 Doctorwine:

92 of 100 Points.

"Doctorwine" has rated the wine "Il Marroneto Madonna delle Grazie" from the vintage 2008 on 01.11.2013 with 92 of 100 points.

"This wine for the first time was awarded 'three glasses' by the Gambero Rosso guide and, in my opinion, deserved them all. The color is an intense garnet, a bit more concentrated that the 'stock' version. The aromas are very typical, black cherry and violet, with a sharpness that is almost 'Chianti-esque', plus a note of wood that has been totally merged into the aromatic spectrum. The attack of the mouthfeel is taut and juicy, with a wonderful acidity that 'verticalizes' it and brings us back to the origins of a northern Brunello and vines at a higher altitude. The tannins are gentle and for the most part already settled, while the persistence is subtle, pleasing and very long."
