"A blend of 70% Corvina and Corvina Grosso, 20% Rondinella and the rest Croatina and Oseleta the grapes for which raisinated for 40 days. The wine aged in barriques and has a compact, ruby color. The aroma is dominated by dark fruit, pulpy cherry and other red fruits, spice, pepper, cacao and smoky sensations. The mouthfeel is dry and elegant, fine and juicy, with thick and velvety tannins ahead of a long finish full of spice and hay sensations."

"On paper it was a minor year but it also coincided with the start of a slight shift in style, one that sought a fresher fruit. The aromas are outstanding and it is very fresh to both the nose and mouth, with typical structural characteristics and a fruity and spicy finish, while slightly bitter tannins offer greater diversification."

"-€˜-€™Because we had hail this year there was no end to the work we had to do in the vineyard-€™-€™. We were braced some smeary aromas but there were none, not even a hint. The style was typical, thick and very sweet fruit, ethereal scents were minimal and it had a meatiness and definition that were almost unreal for a red made raisinated grapes. A touch of wood still needed to be -€˜digested-€™. This had a tad less structure than the 2002 but it was compensated by silky tannins. The finish demonstrated a complexity and length worthy of a champion. It needs at least another five years in the bottle. Fantastic."

The fruit is very sweet yet at times lacks intensity. The flavor has a meaty attack of prune puree (another estate trademark) but the tannins tend to be drying despite a structure that is, as always, comparable only to the great reds of the New World. I have no idea whether one should drink this now or wait some more. Romano reminded us how when this wine reached the market it divided qualified critics. It-€™s unfortunate that we have to agree with the more severe ones."
