Formigar was the original name of Formigar Castle. South Tyrol's largest self-contained vineyard area spreads out to the south of the castle, where this sinewy but elegant Chardonnay grows on a dry plateau of gravel and eroded porphyry.
Deion: Pale yellow tinged with green; a full but well-integrated wine imbued with honeydew melon, creamy fruit salad and nutty flavours, ample acidity with a delicate underlay of oak and a long, luscious finish. Cellaring potential: 5-8 years
Food Choices: This full-bodied wine is a delight savoured on its own but will complement rich fish dishes such as poached skate with mint cream sauce, Dover sole, Cicatelli pasta with fresh crab, stir-fried scallops with ginger, chicken and veal. Serve lightly chilled, 12-14°C

Sites: Selected vineyards in the vicinity of Girlan-Schreckbichl at an altitude of approx. 400-450m. A very dry site, medium-structure morainal soils comprising sand and gravel, and cool microclimate with striking contrasts between day and night time temperatures.
Yield: 55 - 55 hl/ha
Winemaking: Grapes are pressed whole and fermentation takes place in a mixture of new and used French oak barriques, where malolactic fermentation also takes place. The wine is matured on the lees for 10 months with regular battonage.

The Schreckbichl Winery, also known as Cantina Produttori Colterenzio, is one of the best-known wineries in South Tyrol, a region in the northern part of Italy known for its excellent wine-growing areas. The winery was founded in 1960 by a group of winegrowers and has its headquarters in Schreckbichl, a small village in the municipality of Girlan.

A clean, concentrated floral nose reminiscent of elder and acacia flower with ah hint of sage, leads to a fresh, distinctive palate with nicely rounded fruit, light oak spice and a crisp finish. Smell: The multifaceted aroma of this wine derives a combination of ripe fruit, including honeydew melon, white peach, pear and Golden Delicious apple, together with the aromas of quince jelly and dried fruit such as pear, orange and pineapple, on the one hand, and graphite notes and a hint of jasmine with a mineral touch on the other. Taste: The interplay of fruity aromatic and salty components is repeated on the palate, where the soft and creamy elements gain greater strength in a wine with a lingering, firmly minerally and spicy character on the aftertaste.
The Pinot Bianco - the most important and typical of all the South Tyrolean grape varieties - has now been promoted to the top of the St. Valentin range. The St. Valentin has a clear, straw colour with slightly green reflections. It smells delightfully of intensive and typical fruit aromas: ripe app - les and pears combined with melons and a trace of a fine vanilla fragrance. Concentrated and with a wonderful strength and richness, refined and clear in its way, its structure appears refresh- ing despiete the maturation in wood: the Pinot Bianco St. Valentin is a wine which is set to become a real talking point.
