Campo Dei Gigli is the winery's historic and symbolic Amarone della Valpolicella, the fruit of tradition but at the same time iconic and characteristic of the terroir that the winery represents. With an impenetrable ruby red colour with purple reflections, it has a slight garnet note due to the passage in wood and ageing. The bouquet is typical of wild red fruits with an unfailing touch of wood, mineral hints over aromas of liquorice, black pepper, tobacco, spices and chocolate. In the mouth, the flavour is balanced, very intense, persistent and full-bodied, to be consumed after the 5th year following the harvest.
Regular season untill the end of July, after some very hot days the weather changed and we had a lot of rain in the first two weeks of August and almost everyday we had some rain untill September 15th. The harvest was a little complicated, but we had reduced the grapes during the summer to avoid infections, so the result is better than expected.
The ruby colour captivates with its tone and intensity. The fruit is exuberant with a very pleasurable sour cherry taste, merged with hints of chocolate and sweet spices. The subtlety enhances the floral component of the purple rose. Balsamic notes emerge with increasing conviction, along with hints of star anise and wild gooseberry. The tertiary elements are subtle and leave the perception of pleasurable notes of arabica and mild tobacco.
Undisputedly symbolic of the Speri company, the Amarone Monte Sant'Urbano is a superb example of a fine, classic wine. It is an extraordinary wine with great complexity and a vigorous structure which has always been top for its elegance and quality. After carefully selecting the best bunches the prestigious Monte Sant'Urbano vineyard, the grapes are left to dry for a long period (3-4 months depending on the vintage year). This creates a wine with plenty of structure and softness which will certainly age well.
Made Sangiovese grapes with a little percentage of Merlot, this wine, aged for approximately 9 months in oak barrels, combines structure, softness and much character.
