The Kerner, which is only cultivated in South Tyrol on a combined area of 30 hectares in Val Venosta and Valle Isarco, was created in the 1920's as a cross between a red Trollinger (Schiava) and white Riesling.
The vine bestows a flavorful, straw-yellow white wine with greenish reflections. The pomace for this wine is brought the Vineyard Köferer in Novacella, where, in addition to Riesling and Sylvaner, a solid Kerner is manufactured. This pomace produces a clear grappa that is just full of character.
Stylistics: Just like the wine, the Kerner Grappa the distillery Zu Plun smells very conservative, low-key. On the palate though, it is dry, full-bodied, and very present. In the end, this distillation exhibits a typical profile with a taste similar to nutmeg.

The distillery is run by Florian Rabanser, who learned the craft of distilling his father and is now the fourth generation to continue it. Pink colour with ruby hints. Quite pronounced, fruity aroma (red berries) with floral impressions (violets). Medium-bodied smooth fruit on the palate, fresh. Long lasting aftertaste with an elegant bitter twist.
